Breast Augmentation consists of making very important decisions. Whether you are adding volume, improving shape or increasing size, you are bound to become more familiar with the procedure in your quest for beautiful breasts. One of the most important variables women need to become more familiar with is knowing the different types of breast implant profiles. Each woman has a different look and body type, so to help you decide which profile suits your frame here is a closer look at the different profiles offered from breast augmentation in Los Angeles.
High profile implants have a smaller base but more projection than moderate profile implants. They are taller and more narrow, which allows them to project more from the body. This style is a popular choice for women who desire a dramatic change with implants. One key benefit that most women report is the side wall of the implant adds more height and reduces the risk of visible rippling on breast tissue.
Low profile implants are primarily for women with a bigger breast base which results in a more subtle projection than other profile types. The lower projection makes the low profile implants more desirable among older candidates with wider chest frames.
Moderate and Moderate Plus Profile
Moderate profile implants have a slightly wider base than high profile implants, and they have a smaller projection from the body. This style provides women with a full and rounded shape that they desire, while increasing the size and volume of the breasts. Most women with a narrow chest report high satisfaction rates after their procedure.
Moderate plus implant is a style that combines high and moderate profile breast implants. Women who choose moderate and moderate plus benefit from having natural-looking results and breast appearance for those who have lost breast volume due to natural aging.
Choosing A Breast Implant Profile For You
Most breast augmentation candidates have a realistic idea about what they want their physique to look like in the end, including size and shape of breast implants. The breast implant profile plays a key role in determining the final outlook. Each style lies differently against the chest wall and reflects different results that complements a woman’s body. Women with narrow breast base may be more inclined to high profile implants, while women with a wider breast base may benefit better with low profile implants. If a woman falls in between she may opt for a moderate or moderate plus profile to satisfy her projection and volume needs.
Your consultation with Dr. Stoker can help you determine which breast implant profile matches your body type. For the sexiest curves that you desire you can schedule an appointment for breast augmentation in Los Angeles to discuss your options.
Patients ask us questions all the time, usually about the results they can expect and the plastic surgery experience itself. What many people overlook is what to expect after surgery, specifically the handy items that can make your recovery so much easier. These items run the gamut from medical necessities to creature comforts. If you keep these seven items on hand before you go in for surgery, you will most likely find your recovery much more enjoyable.
- Your medication should help ease any discomfort during your initial recovery, but not if you wait until after your surgery to pick it up. Save yourself or your caretaker an uncomfortable trip to the pharmacy by filling your prescription in advance. That way, you can have your pain medication and antibiotics ready right when you need them.
- Surgical gloves may seem like something that should stay in the operating room, but you may find them helpful at home as well, especially if your procedure involves the use of post-operative drains.
- If you have post-operative swelling, as most patients do, gel ice packs are a preferable alternative to ice. They work better, don’t leak, and have rounded corners so they don’t irritate your healing tissue.
- A variety of liquids is an absolute must. Most patients crave a little sugar, so juices or sodas are usually ideal for hydration and taking medication. Soups with broth – like chicken noodle – are a great way to replenish after surgery, especially if you can’t handle crunchier foods, as is the case with many people who undergo certain face procedures.
- In order to maintain maximum comfort during your convalescence, keep a handful of pillows in different shapes and sizes on hand. You never know what position will be most comfortable for you to rest in following surgery. Having lots of pillows can help support the best position for you.
- When it comes to comfort, many patients also find a change of clothes does the trick. Comfortable pajamas are usually ideal to change into after your surgery. After all, you may be in bed for a while.
- Ointments like Aquaphor are great for any skin irritation you develop. They can help you stay moisturized, especially if you’re left feeling a little dried out after surgery.
Remember, it is important to stock up on these items before you go in for surgery. You never how quickly you might need them, and your caretaker will appreciate not having to make emergency trips to the corner pharmacy. We have found that having these items goes a long way in improving the comfort of most of our patients.
The effect of sleep on your appearance is well-documented. We all know that getting enough beauty sleep is one of the keys to maintaining a fresh, youthful face. What many people don’t know is that as you sleep, you may be developing wrinkles. The problem stems not from how much sleep you’re getting, but rather how you’re sleeping. The problem comes from the position you sleep in. And for those of you who like to sleep on your side, the news isn’t good.
Dermatologists recognize that certain facial wrinkles, sometimes called sleep lines, develop as a result of your sleeping position. People who sleep on their sides or face down in the pillow put pressure on their faces throughout the night. Over time, this pressure causes wrinkles to form, much like your facial expressions cause lines over the years. The best way to remedy this situation is to become a back sleeper. But many patients find this change in position difficult to get used to. For those who want to make a change, here are some tips to ease your transition:
- Practice. Every day, spend 10 to 15 minutes in bed on your back. This will help you cultivate muscle memory and get used to sleeping in this position. Then, when you go to bed, your body will be more inclined to keep this posture.
- Get a memory foam pillow. These comfortable little devices cradle your head and conform to fit its shape. This encourages you to stay in the same position throughout the night.
- Use a pillow behind your knees. Some people find that the support makes lying on your back more comfortable.
Taking these simple steps will help you sleep restfully, on your back, throughout the night. And without the constant pressure on your face, you should be able to prevent the formation of sleep wrinkles. Sweet dreams!
The holiday season is well-known for being the time of year when Americans spend the most money shopping. But holiday spending sprees these days extend to more than electronics and clothing; as it turns out, this is also the time of year that they spend the most money on cosmetic surgery. There are two main contributing factors: the desire to look great at social gatherings and the extra time off for recovery.
It’s natural to want to look your best, especially when you know you’re going to see relatives for the first time all year. Getting together with family can be the best part of the season, but many people begin to stress at the thought of being judged. In addition to buying new clothes and getting their hair done, many people now invest in plastic surgery to look great for these holiday parties.
Many people also look forward to this time of year because of the opportunity to take some extra time off from work. For those who have been planning on getting a cosmetic procedure, those extra vacation days look like a great time to recover from surgery. For potential patients who look to the holidays as a great time to get plastic surgery for either of these reasons, there are some things to keep in mind.
- Cosmetic surgery should only be sought for your satisfaction, not the perceptions of others. It is always tempting to show off your great looks at a party, but plastic surgery is not the best way to do it. These procedures can be transforming, but only when you get it to please yourself.
- Certain procedures deliver long-lasting or permanent results. Making such a life-changing decision should merit careful consideration on the part of the patient.
- Recovery times can vary widely when it comes to cosmetic procedures. Procedures like breast augmentation or liposuction only need a long weekend for recovery in most cases. More invasive procedures, such as a tummy tuck, can take considerably longer. And of course, non-invasive treatments like Botox have no downtime.
- Even after your recovery period is over, you may still experience some difficulty performing everyday tasks. Even after you return to work following breast augmentation, for instance, you may be sore and find it difficult carrying around heavy shopping bags.
Although we have seen the tremendous positive effects that cosmetic surgery can have on our patients, we know that it’s important to seek it for the right reasons. This holiday season, make sure that your resolutions lead you to make the changes that are best for you. And if that happens to include plastic surgery, we’re here to help.
Body image and self-esteem directly influence one another. Having a positive body image is an essential part of having a healthy self-esteem. It is important to remember that your body is unique, and although plastic surgery should not be seen as a panacea for having a low self esteem, it is important to remember the psychological benefits of these procedures.
Breast enhancements for those who are dissatisfied with their current breast size or breast asymmetry can enhance appearance and boost self-confidence. Before one decides to have surgery, it is always best to meet with a surgeon with the knowledge and experience to answer all the questions you may have. As a board certified surgeon, many have chosen Dr. Stoker to perform their breast enhancement surgery because he is one of the national leaders in this field. He is also author to several plastic surgery textbook chapters on cosmetic surgery safety and techniques. This gives him the experience to be able to produce the results that you desire, with minimal scarring, and a rather quick recovery time.
Not every woman is born with full perky breasts and the attractive nipples they desire. As well, time and gravity can take a toll on the appearance of breasts causing drooping and sagging. Breast augmentation has a positive impact on many women’s lives.
Common Reasons to have the breast enhancement surgery:
- to increase confidence and self-esteem
- to improve your body image
- if your breasts are different in size or shape
- for sagging or loss of firmness
- reconstruction purposes due to trauma, cancer, or other diseases
- Simply wanting clothes to fit better
We know you might have reasons that are all your own, and we encourage you to share those with us. We know breast enhancement is easier than you have probably imagined, so to get started request a free consultation.
For some people, it seems that no matter how much effort they put into diet and exercise, there are areas on their body where fat seems to accumulate in an unnatural proportion and refuse to budge. This can make a person uncomfortable when it comes time to bare all in a bathing suit on the beach, or slip into summer slim clothing that hugs the body. Liposuction has been a popular plastic surgery technique to battle these stubborn areas of fat for years and advances within the last decade have made the procedure even more effective in making the skin smooth and firm.
Laser assisted liposuction was introduced about eight years ago and has proven to be helpful in getting rid of unwanted fat deposits in combination with traditional liposuction surgery. With liposuction surgery, small incisions are made in the skin, a solution of saline mixed with a mild anesthetic and sometimes epinephrine is then injected into the fat. Then the fat is evacuated by means of suction using an aspiration machine.
When lasers are added to the procedure, the fat is heated by the light energy of the laser making it softer and easier to remove. This can make the procedure less traumatic to the tissues under the skin, making recovery quicker and possibly resulting in less pain. It is also believed that the laser energy encourages the production of collagen in the skin which naturally slows with age. Collagen “plumps up” skin cells and makes them appear fuller and smoother which is a great tool against cellulite that can accompany areas of concentrated fat.
The advantage to having laser assisted liposuction is that bruising can be less extensive and you may find that you can return to normal activities with less pain in a shorter period of time. An additional advantage to laser-assisted liposuction is that it can be performed under local anesthesia alone depending on the patient case. If several areas are being treated, it is best that more than just a local anesthetic is used and general anesthesia may be required.

Many people desire to have a more shapely body with slimmed contours, but diet and exercise alone has not given them the results they want. With the Brazilian Butt Lift, Dr. Stoker uses a technique that allows patients to look forward to not only a perkier behind, but also, a reduction of fat in unwanted areas of the body. Depending on the patients needs, Dr. Stoker will harvest fat from target areas of the body such as the torso or thighs and then transfer that to the behind to create a smooth and sexy shape. According to Real Self, 93% of patients (based on 2,953 cases) said that the Brazilian Butt Lift was worth the results!
Each procedure is individualized so that you are sure to be happy with your results. As it is the patient’s own tissue being used to enhance their shape, there is less risk for complications as opposed to if an actual implant was used for the procedure. The patient can choose how much they would like to enhance their posterior using the excess fat removed from the flanks thighs or other area. However, there is some limitation depending on how much excess fat there is available for Dr. Stoker to remove for transfer.
Dr. Stoker harvests the fat by making small incisions in the areas where fat is going to be removed. After the fat is removed and properly prepared for transfer, large amounts of fat are injected in multiple layers. It is important that the fat is placed in multiple layers because it allows the transferred fat every chance to connect back with the blood supply in the buttocks and helps with the survival rate of the fat. It is also important that each injection is properly placed to ensure a desirable shape for the buttocks.
The Brazilian Butt Lift can be for any patient that is in overall good health and desires to slim their shape, yet plump up their behind. The procedure can be used for older women that are looking to get a perkier posterior after years of gravity’s toll on the body, or for younger women that want to further enhance their shape. For patients that do not have a lot of excess fat however, the procedure may not be right for them.

In a recent interview with Real Self, Dr. Stoker discussed the upcoming body lift surgery that Meredith would be having. On June 4th, it was revealed that Meredith had reached her goal weight off 155 lbs. with the help of fitness trainer Chris Powell on ABC’s Extreme Weight Loss. Meredith was so dedicated to reaching her goal weight that she tattooed the words “Believe It, Be It” on her lower abdomen. After reaching her goal weight, Dr. Stoker has deemed that she is a good candidate to have surgery to remove the excess hanging skin and tighten her tummy.
One major looming question is whether or not the body lift surgery Dr. Stoker performs will remove the entire tattoo that Meredith has on her lower stomach. Since Meredith had lost over 100 lbs on her weight loss journey, she will need an extended tummy tuck, removing all of the skin on the lower abdomen. Since the tattoo is on the lower abdomen, that means it will be completely removed with the skin removal surgery. Dr. Stoker even said that there will be at least four square feet removed from her midsection.
Dr. Stoker also discussed in his interview with Real Self how Meredith would have a much easier time performing an activity she loves, running! Dr. Stoker explained how the excess skin that patients are left with after a massive weight loss can cause difficulty in exercises because of the excess skin bouncing and even chaffing. The excess skin can also develop a rash from repeated chaffing and accumulated moisture. By removing this skin, Dr. Stoker is able to help alleviate the pain caused by the rubbing as well as lift embarrassment that is associated with having the flapping skin. Once Meredith has her skin removal surgery, she will be able to better enjoy running and feel more confident while doing it.

Women who go through pregnancy and childbirth will often see changes in their body that are attributable not only to the weight they gain but the stretching of skin over the expanding abdomen. Most women will gain anywhere between 25 and 50 pounds during pregnancy, some of which they will lose easily after the baby is born and some that will be more stubborn. Even the best exercise and weight loss routine will not have an effect on skin that sags due to loss of elasticity and the breakdown of the underlying structure that supports the skin and surrounding tissues. There is hope for women who have found that they have more sags and drooping than they want. It is through a plastic surgery procedure known as the mommy makeover.
A mommy makeover actually consists of multiple procedures to correct the conditions that are a result of pregnancy and childbirth. It can include a breast lift, tummy tuck and liposuction if necessary. A woman’s breasts will normally become enlarged during pregnancy as a result of the weight gain as well as milk production. A breast lift can bring them back to pre-pregnancy firmness by eliminating excess skin and anchoring tissue deep within the breast to provide support. In some cases, women will opt to also have breast augmentation to replenish fullness to the breasts that may have been lost as a result of breastfeeding.
A tummy tuck can do the same for abdominal skin that has stretched beyond its capacity. The excess skin is removed from the abdomen. The underlying muscle structure is typically repositioned to give a more hourglass look and flatter abdomen. Some patients that seek the mommy makeover also have excess fat deposits that simply won’t budge from diet and exercise alone. In these cases, liposuction can be a solution to restore pre-pregnancy proportions. Excess fat is removed from such areas by a suction procedure to give excellent results, restoring a woman’s figure and her self-confidence.
If you are a woman that is unhappy with your body because of the effects of pregnancy and breast feeding, Dr. Stoker can help you! Schedule your consultation at his office in Marina del Rey, California and he will discuss with you your individual needs and the procedures that will work best for you.
Losing weight is an accomplishment that deserves celebration. Excess fat is linked to many cancers such as breast, colon, pancreatic, and prostate cancers. By losing weight you are helping to decrease your chance of getting diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension among many others. Individuals with a normal weight lead healthier and more active lives. However, after moderate to extreme weight loss, many people are left with loose and excess skin as their skin no longer has the surplus fat to adhere to. This sagging skin can only be effectively treated through a cosmetic procedure referred to as a body lift. Dr. Stoker is an authority in performing combined procedures and has been a featured surgeon on The Biggest Loser and Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition.
People are left with excess skin after weight loss because the skin is stretched to accommodate the individual’s original, larger size. When weight is being lost, especially at a rapid pace, and the skin has decreased in elasticity, it is unable to bounce back to its original orientation and thus hangs loosely. Cosmetic surgery can help correct this undesirable body shape by removing excess skin and tightening the underlying muscle structure. A body lift is the general term for an allover removal of excess skin to create a more firm and taut body. A body lift works by improving the shape and tone of the tissue that supports fat and skin. This can include an arm lift, thigh lift, neck lift, and a tummy tuck among other specific procedures.
A tummy tuck is the most popular body lift procedure. Also known as an abdominoplasty, it is for individuals who have lost a massive amount of weight in their abdomen area or have loose and stretched skin from pregnancy. A tummy tuck is a procedure where the lower abdomen is tightened through the removal of excess fat and skin to achieve a more youthful and flatter belly. There are two main types of tummy tuck surgery: a full tummy tuck and a partial tummy tuck. A full tummy tuck removes a great amount of skin compared to a partial tummy tuck. However, they both will leave a scar from the incision that is concealed beneath the bikini line and should gradually fade over time.
Arm and thigh lifts are very similar to an abdominoplasty. The only major difference is the targeted area is now the arm or thigh respectively. Liposuction and skin removal are implemented to create a firmer body contour. However, there will still be an incision scar where the excess skin was removed. Nevertheless, this scar should fade gradually over time and become less noticeable.
If you have lost a massive amount of weight and are looking to have cosmetic surgery to achieve a body shape that you are happy with, call Dr. Stoker’s office at 310-300-1779, or you can request your consultation online.
